Get Set Learn and Get Set Read
Sidhant Sharma, as a grade 9 student, began this initiative in 2019 with the goal of providing government school children access to interesting and culturally relevant stories in vernacular as well as in English language. The first phase was piloted as a Library in a Classroom, with interactions with students and teachers at government schools in Mumbai, India to better understand their requirements. The lockdown brought about by the Covid pandemic made him pivot to a digital framework.
While the stories with Get Set Read were well received, Sidhant realised the immense digital divide that exists in the country. Many children had little or no access to smart devices which hindered learning and exposure in a world increasingly turning digital. News of students being driven to despair at the thought of being left behind or dropping out of school due to limited access to technology, highlighted the urgency of bridging this divide, particularly through the pandemic.
That’s when Sidhant realised how a simple digital device like a tablet could revolutionize the learning experience for students and facilitate uninterrupted education.
Get, Set, Learn envisions impacting 500,000 children over the next 5 years. Sidhant began with an initial aim of collecting funds for 200 tablets which soon grew to 500 in one fundraiser and were generously doubled by an organisation. Since then, through continued engagement of the YUVA Unstoppable team and Sidhant with existing and new supporters and the on-ground impact has resulted in Get Set Learn reaching almost 9000 children till date. It continues to grow further. If you’d like to help, please write to us at getsetlearn@yuvaunstoppable.org
